Hutchinsias, not being aware that the name of Miss Hutchins had previously been applied to a genus of Cruciferæ, by Mr. Brown. The species of this genus are, perhaps, the most beautiful of all the tribes of Confervæ. 2300. Rytiphlæa. So called, it is presumed, from guris, a wrinkle, and φλεω, to be filled with any thing. Solenia. So called, from σωληv, a tube, in allusion to the tubular nature of the frond. 2308. Ulva. This was the common name applied by the Latins to all kinds of marine plants. The word is said to have been derived from the Celtic ul, water. The green laver which, stewed with lemon juice, is so to have been derived from the Celtic ul, water.
