Narcissus Of narcissus one is tempted to order a generous number, some to be planted within the confines of the garden, some to be naturalized in any possible spaces outside, and some for potting and forcing into winter bloom indoors. There is considerable confusion in the minds of many people regarding the distinction between the terms Daffodil, Narcissus, and Jonquil. Narcissus is the family name and covers many groups. One is therefore correct and quite safe in calling any member of this family a narcissus, whether it be big or little, single or double, yellow, white, or bicolor. Among the most important groups of the family we have:-- Narcissus pseudonarcissus (trumpet narcissus, commonly called daffodil). In this class the trumpet is longer than the perianth (the perianth being the row of petals surrounding the trumpet). Coloring, all yellow, all white, or bicolor.

Narcissus incomparabilis. The trumpet is one third or slightly more than one third the length of the perianth and widespread. Coloring, all yellow or with white or orange trumpet.
