An Honest Herbalist
Oakland, Calif.
I suffered from high blood pressure, nervousness, headache, and pain in my back. My heart beat rapidly and noisily, and a very little work caused fatigue. When I failed to get relief elsewhere, my friend, Mr. James Mast, who had taken the FONG WAN HERBS for running sores of the intestines and had secured quick relief, recommended that I try FONG WAN. I asked this Specialist to feel my pulse and see what he thought of my condition, but before I had time to sit down in the chair, he told me immediately all about my trouble, just by looking at my face. I commenced to take his herbs on July 29th, and now, after having drunk them for seven weeks, I am feeling just fine.
When I expressed my surprise at the ability of FONG WAN to diagnose my case merely by looking at me, he frankly told me that this was nothing to boast about, as there was nothing mysterious about the Chinese method of diagnosis. He explained that every really learned Chinese Herbalist had been trained to study the expression of the face and appearance of the tongue, and to make keen use of his ears in detecting the nature of human suffering by the voice. The -(37)pulse examination was only a part of the diagnosis. He further stated that in some cases it was necessary to ask questions and get from the sufferer a detailed account of his malady, in order to determine the exact cause of the trouble. He also told me that one Chinese Doctor advertised that no questions were asked. This so-called "Herb Doctor" had treated a wellknown Berkeley lady for nine months, but had no idea that her trouble was gall stones until she had them cut out by a Surgeon. FONG WAN impressed me as being one of the most honest men I had ever met. He did not claim that his herbs would help in every ailment, but he told me that in my case he thought it advisable to try him.
