Herb Lore

Chinese herbalism in 1920s Oakland: Fong Wan's own book of herbs, cases and cookery, published from his Tenth Street office at a time when practising it got him prosecuted — and acquitted.

Eighteen Years of Misery

Martinez, Calif.

For 18 years I suffered misery with my stomach, side and back. Although for an hour or two after eating my pain was not so severe, yet nothing I ate seemed to agree with me. My stomach was always sour.

At night I was so nervous that I couldn't sleep. Sometimes when I lay down I felt as though I should smother. I had no ambition to do my work, and when I got up in the morning I felt as tired as when I went to bed.

I went to different doctors and tried patent medicines, but derived no benefit from any of them. I was told of the FONG WAN HERB CO., and decided to try them.

I took the herbs ten weeks, followed the diet exactly, and I now feel like a new person. My pains are gone, my stomach isn't sour. I can sleep all night without distress. My nerves are strong and I feel so ambitious that I can do more than I have been able to do for years. I cannot speak too highly of the FONG WAN HERB CO., and am glad to give my testimonial. -(22)-
