Peruvian Bark

Description. The tree which furnishes this bark is described as being in general about fifteen feet high, and six inches thick. It somewhat resembles our cherry-tree, grows promiscuously in forests, particularly in the hilly parts of Quito in Peru, and is spontaneously propagated from its seeds. Virtues. It is a medicine which seems not only suited to both formed and latent intermittents, but to that state of fibre on which all rigidly periodical diseases seem to depend; as periodical pain, inflammation, haemorrhagy, spasm, cough, loss of external sense, &c.
