Lawns and Garden Paths: Kentucky
Throughout the North the bulk of the seed mixture used should be composed of Kentucky Blue Grass, this grass in time makes the most beautiful and permanent lawn but is best used in a mixture containing seeds of quick-growing grasses that will serve as a nurse crop to the Kentucky Blue Grass while it is becoming established and will help to keep the weeds from gaining a foothold. About 3 years are required for this variety to completely occupy the land, but it being a strong grower will crowd out the other grasses in the course of a few years. For the benefit of those wishing to make their own grass seed mixtures a few formulas are given at the end of the chapter.
