Varieties. Azalea Indica, variety Alba, white, April and May. A. Indica rosea, tinted pink, May. A.

Amœna, magenta, late April and May. A. Kaempferi, flowers range from light pink to orange salmon, blooms in May, sometimes attains a height of 12 ft.

The salmon-pink variety is especially desirable. Two good yellow varieties of azalea pontica (or Ghent Azalea) are Nancy Waterer and Anthony Koster.

Varieties adapted for naturalizing purposes. A.

Calendulaceæ (Flame Azlaea) flowers come in June and vary from yellow to deep orange, attains a height of from 4 to 10 feet. A. Vaseyi, 5 to 15 feet high, the pink flowers come in May. A. Arborescens 8 to 10 [191] feet high, flowers are mostly white. The blooming season is June and July. Best planted in masses in damp, shady situations.
