Shrubs and Vines: Andromeda

Andromeda japonica is an ornamental low-growing evergreen shrub; it is perfectly hardy and bears graceful white flowers in early spring. Andromeda is well suited for planting in front of taller growing shrubs and evergreens and is especially well adapted for rockeries and for foundation plantings around the base of buildings. It prefers a partially shady location and a moist sandy soil containing an admixture of leaf mold.

Abelia Grandiflora is a low-growing shrub attaining a height of about 3 feet and is especially valued for its glossy semi-evergreen foliage and its graceful habit of growth. The flowers are white tinged with pink and are borne profusely in midsummer. It is adapted to the same kind of planting as andromeda.
