The Perennial Garden: Rudbeckia

Rudbeckia, Cone-Flower. Rudbeckia is valued for the length of its blooming season, which begins about July 15th and lasts from three to six weeks.

The flowers are extremely durable, and come in a shade of reddish pink, and yellow. Rudbeckia thrives in a rich soil, but good results can be obtained by planting in almost any soil, and also in either sun or partial shade. Propagate by cuttings taken in spring, which can be rooted in a cold frame, provided they are watered and shaded, or by division of the roots, made spring or fall.

Varieties. Purpurea, reddish pink, by far the [77] best and most durable variety. Golden Glow, double yellow prefers moist situations, the least desirable. Autumn Sun, best yellow, single.
