Acanthus
About fourteen species, inhabiting tropical and sub-tropical regions, are included in this genus. To those described on pp. 8-9, Vol. I., the following should now be added:
A. Caroli-Alexandri (Charles Alexander's). fl. white, often suffused rose-colour, in a dense spike. Summer. l. few, radical, in a lax rosette, lanceolate, pinnatifid, spiny-toothed, 16in. long, 3in. to 4in. broad. Stem 9in. to 18in. high, with two to four similar leaves. Greece, 1887. (R.
