Anacampseros
(from anakampto, to cause return, and eros, love). SYN. Rulingia. ORD. Portulacaceae. Very dwarf greenhouse succulent herbs or sub-shrubs, natives of the Cape of Good Hope. Flowers large, expanding only in the heat of the sun; petals five, very fugacious; sepals five, opposite, oblong, rather concrete at the base; pedicels one-flowered, short or elongated, disposed in racemes. Leaves ovate, fleshy. They grow freely in sandy loam, mixed with some lime rubbish; but little water is needed. Cuttings root freely if laid to dry a few days before planting. Leaves taken off close to the plants, and also left to dry for a short time before being planted, will take root. Seed, when obtainable, should be sown in the spring.
A. arachnoides (cobwebbed).* fl. white; petals lanceolate; racemes simple. July. l. ovate, acuminated, difformed, green, shining, cobwebbed. h. 6in. to 9in. 1790.
A. filamentosa (thready). fl. reddish, or deep rose coloured; petals oblong.
