Clausena
(commemorative of P.Clauson, a Danish botanist of the seventeenth century). ORD. Rutaceae. A genus of about fourteen species of stove evergreen trees, occurring for the most part in India, a few being found in Africa and tropical Australia. Flowers small, disposed in loose panicles. Leaves impar-pinnate; leaflets stalked, pubescent. They thrive in rich loam; young cuttings, ripened at the bottom, and taken off at a joint, will root in sand, under a hand glass, in heat.
C. corymbiflora (corymb-flowered). fl. white. Loyalty Islands, 1878. C. pentaphylla (five-leaved). fl. white. June to august. l. with five or seven pairs of leaflets. h. 20ft. India, 1800.
