(from korys, a hood, or helmet; in reference to the calyx covering the nut). Hazel; Cob-nut. ORD. Corylaceoe. Low trees and large shrubs, deciduous. Malo flowers whitish, in cylindrical catkins; bracts sessile, imbricate. Female flowers red, in a bud-like catkin, which is developed into a branchlet. Leaves simple, alternate, exstipulate.
