Eglantine
"A name that has been the subject of much discussion, both as to its exact meaning, and as to the shrub to which it belongs." The Eglantine of Gerard, Parkinson, and some of the other old writers,is, no doubt, Rosa rubiginosa, our common Sweetbriar. The "twisted Eglantine" of Milton is "supposed to have meant the Woodbine (Lonicera Periclymenum), which is still known as Eglantine in North-east Yorkshire" (Prior).
