Gaudichaudia
(named in honour of Charles Gaudichaud, who accompanied Freycinet as naturalist in his voyage round the world, 1817-20). ORD. Malpighiaceae. A genus comprising twelve species of graceful, mostly twining stove shrubs, inhabitants of Mexico, New Grenada, and Venezuela. The species of this genus, like those of some other genera of the same family, are remarkable for constantly producing two kinds of flowers. Flowers yellow; petals sometimes perigynous, roundish, spreading. In the more imperfect flowers, the petals are either rudimentary or altogether absent. Leaves opposite, entire.
