Hacquetia
(named after Balthasar Hacquet, 1740-1815, author of "Plantae Alpinae Carniolicae"). SYNS. Dondia, Dondisia. ORD. Umbelliferae. A monotypic genus. The species is a pretty little alpine herbaceous perennial, thriving in good stiff loam. It is a slow-growing subject, and should not be disturbed. Propagation must, therefore, only be undertaken in the case of strong healthy clumps, which are best divided before growth commences, in spring. H. Epipactis (Epipactis).* fl. yellow, on short pedicels; scapes one to three, bearing at their tops simple umbels; involucre of five or six obovate leaves, which are longer than the umbels. Spring. l. radical, petiolate, palmate; leaflets three, cuneated, two or three-cleft. h. 3in. to 6in. Europe, 1823. (L. B. C. 1832.)
