Haemaria (From haima blood in reference)

(from haima, blood; in reference to the blood-red colour of the leaves on the under surface). SYN. Ludisia. ORD. Orchideae. A genus comprising about four species of terrestrial orchids, natives of China, Cochin China, and the Malayan Archipelago. Flowers racemose, shortly pedicellate or sub-sessila. Leaves shortly petiolate, ovate or elliptic, thickish, membranaceous; bracts membranaceous. H. discolor, the only species yet introduced, is an interesting stove plant. For culture, see Goodyera.

H. discolor (two-coloured). fl. white, 3/4in. across; spike erect, furnished with a number of crimson bracts. November. l. ovate, few, green above, crimson underneath. h. 1ft. South China, 1815. (B. R. 271; B. M. 2055, under name of Goodyera discolor.)
