Kyllinga
(named after Peter Kylling, 1640-1696, a Danish botanist of the seventeenth century). SYN. Kyllingia. ORD. Cyperaceoe. A rather large genus (about sixty species have been described, although scarcely twenty are sufficiently distinct to merit specific rank) of perennial or rarely annual stove herbs, broadly dispersed throughout tropical regions. Inflorescence usually in solitary heads; spikes compressed, one or two-flowered. The species are of little or no horticultural value. For culture, see Cyperus. K. monocephala (one-headed). fl.-heads whitish, terminal, sessile, oval; involucre three-leaved, unequal, the largest leaf as long as the culm. l. sheathing, smooth, sharp-keeled. India, &c., 1868.
