Laeliopsis
(from Laelia, and opsis, resemblance; on account of the similarity between the two genera). ORD. Orchideae. A genus of three or four species of stove epiphytal Orchids, from the West Indies. Laeliopsis was founded by Lindley on the plant described below; in his own words, it is "a Cattleya in all respects, except that the flowers are membranous, and the veins of the lip bearded." L. domingensis (St. Domingo). fl. gay lilac, a little veined with yellow in the middle of the lip; lip two-lobed, with its divisions wavy, denticulate, recurved; scape slender, naked, bearing about eight flowers. l. oblong, coriaceous, obtuse. Pseudo-bulbs two-leaved. 1851. (L. & P. F. G.iii. 105.)
