Linnaea
(so named by Gronovius, after the great Linnaeus, at his own request). ORD. Caprifoliaceae. A monotypic genus. The species is a very pretty, hardy, trailing, sub-shrubby, creeping evergreen, and forms broad leafy patches. It is a desirable plant for rock gardens, preferably in a rather shaded situation; and thrives best in a moist peaty soil. Linnaea will also grow luxuriantly in large pots, filled with peat soil. Propagated readily by divisions.
L. borealis (Northern).* fl. flesh-coloured, twin, pendulous, fragrant; peduncles axillary; corolla campanulate, tube cylindrical; calyx double. May and June. l. roundish or ovate, firm, slightly hairy. The cold regions of the Northern hemisphere (Britain). (Sy. En. B. 644.)
