To the species and varieties described on pp. 371-6, Vol. III., the following should now be added:
S. aretioides micropetala (small-petaled). A synonym of S. lutea-purpurea. S. Engleri (Engler's). fl. white, small. l. thick, deep green, gradually changing to golden-yellow in winter, with slight crustaceous margins. North America.
S. Frederici-Augusti (Frederick Augustus'), of gardens. A synonym of S. lutea-purpurea.
S. Huguenini (Huguenin's). fl. white, solitary, shortly stalked. l. imbricating, oblong, ciliate-toothed, 1/8in. to 1/4in. long. Eastern Swiss Alps, 1886. A neat little plant, of creeping, tufted habit. (R. G. 1230 B.) S. Lapeyrousei (Lapeyrouse's). A synonym of S. lutea-purpurea. S. lutea-purpurea (yellow and purple). fl. lemon-yellow, numerous, corymbose, borne on short, leafy stalks. Spring. l. bright green, narrow-lanceolate, disposed in small rosettes. Pyrenees. Plant very dwarf. SYNS. S. aretioides micropetala, S. Frederici-Augusti (of gardens), S. Lapeyrousei. The true S. Frederici-Augusti is a rare and distinct plant, with a spicate inflorescence and purple flowers, and is not at present in cultivation in this country.
