Xanthisma
(from xanthisma, yellowness; alluding to the colour of the flowers). SYN. Centauridium. ORD. Compositae. A monotypic genus. The species is a hardy, annual or biennial herb. Seeds should be sown in the open border, during April.
X. texanum (Texan). fl.-heads wholly yellow, heterogamous, mediocre, solitary, at the tips of the branches; involucre broadly campanulate, or at length sub-globose, the imbricated bracts in several series; receptacle flat, strongly fimbrilliferous; achenes glabrous; pappus reddish, shining. Summer. l. alternate, linear-lanceolate, entire, pale, erect, sessile, about 1in. long. h. 1 1/2ft. to 2 1/2ft. Texas, 1877. (B. M. 6275.)
