Order Lvii
HOMALINEE.
Evergreen handsome shrubs, with alternate leaves and deciduous stipulæ; they are readily known by their parietal placentæ, an unusual character among the orders that surround them. Blackwéllia fagifólia has fine them. Blackwellia fagifólia has fine bunches of starry white fragrant flowers. Aristotélia is an evergreen half hardy shrub, with eatable berries. Little is known of their medical properties; the root of Homálium Racoúbea is used in Guiana as a cure for gonorrhœa. 1108 Blackwellia Juss. 873 Astránthus L.
