Laurel likes a sandy soil free from lime but rich in leaf mold and can be transplanted in fall or spring if the work is done carefully. Lift with balls of earth round the roots and do not let the plants suffer from lack of moisture during the first summer after planting. Leucothöe Cataesbaei, or Drooping Andromeda.

An ornamental shrub with dark glossy evergreen foliage and bears effective sprays of white flowers in very early spring, it is used for massing with rhododendrons and Mountain Laurel and is very handsome for foundation plantings in shrubbery borders or for naturalizing in woodsy places as they prefer semi-shady locations and require a sandy soil.

Lonicera variety tartarica is the most desirable variety of Bush Honeysuckle and bears its pretty pink or white flowers in April or early May which are fol- [200] lowed in June by bright red fruit. It is long lived, a vigorous grower, easily transplanted, thrives in any good garden soil in either sun or shade. It is best suited for mass plantings.
