Astilbe
The half-dozen species of this genus inhabit the Himalayas, Java, Japan, and North-east America. Only one variety calls for addition to the plants described on pp. 140-1, Vol. I.
A. japonica foliis-purpureus (purple-leaved). An ornamental variety, having purplish stems and foliage. 1885.
