Fedia (Supposed to be from fedus)

(supposed to be from fedus, the same as hoedus, a kid, in allusion to the smell of the plant; but possibly one of Adanson's meaningless names). ORD. Valerianeae. A pretty glabrous annual herb. Leaves entire or toothed. it is of easy culture in moderately good garden soil. Seeds should be sown in ports, in March, and the seedlings planted out thickly in the latter part of April, at which time seed may also be sown in the open border. F. Cornucopiae (Cornucopia-like).* fl. red, corymbose, in fascicles; peduncles thickened, fistular. July. l. ovate-oblong, toothed; lower ones petiolate, upper ones sessile. Stem purplish. h. 6in. South Europe, &c., 1796.(B. R. 155, under name of Valeriana Cornucopiae.)
