Halimodendron
(from halimos, maritime, and dendron, a tree; the plant grows in dry, naked, saltfields, in Siberia). Salt-tree. ORD. Leguminosae. A monotypic genus. The species is a very pretty, silky, hardy deciduous shrub, forming a handsome plant when grafted upon the Laburnum as a standard. It thrives in a sandy soil, and may be increased freely by seeds, by cuttings, or by layers. H. argenteum (silvery).* fl. purplish, rather large, umbellate, axillary, or fascicled on the old nodes. May to July. l. hoary, abruptly pinnate, with two pairs of leaflets. h. 4ft. to 6ft. Asiatic Russia, 1779. (B. M. 1016, under name of Robinia Halimodendron.)
