Hippia
(from hippos, a horse; application doubtful). ORD. Compositae. This genus comprises four species of slender greenhouse herbs or branching sub-shrubs, all natives of South Africa. Flower-heads yellow, minute, rayless, something like those of the Chamomile. Leaves alternate, pinnatifid or pinnatisect, rarely entire. Hippias thrive in a peat and loam compost. Propagated by cuttings, or by seeds.
H. frutescens (shrubby). fl. heads yellow, corymbose. February to August. l. pinnatifid. h. 6in. 1710. Plant shrubby, villous. (B. M. 1855.)
