Kentrophyllum
(from kentron, a spine, and phyllon, a leaf). ORD. Compositae. This genus is now included, by the authors of "Genera Plantarum," under Carthamus. Flower-heads surrounded by a number of prickly leafy scales. K. arborescens, being a half-hardy evergreen shrubby species, requires winter protection, and may be increased, during the spring, by striking cuttings of the young shoots under a handlight.
