Stephanandra
(from stephanos, a crown, and aner, andros, a male; alluding to the disposition of the stamens). ORD. Rosaceae. A monotypic genus. The species is a hardy, deciduous shrub, allied to Spiraea (which see for culture). S. flexuosa (flexuous). fl. white, small, disposed in corymbose panicles or racemes, slenderly pedicellate, ebracteolate; calyx lobes and petals five, the latter spathulate. July. l. alternate, petiolate, incised, or pinnatifid and incised-serrate, pubescent beneath; stipules leafy, persistent. Branches slender, distichous, flexuous. Japan, 1870.
