Pink Perfection, pink. Hyacinthus Candicans, Summer Hyacinth. Hyacinthus Candicans is a pure white, summer flowering bulbous plant; being tall growing it is best situated toward the back of beds and is useful for giving height in annual borders. The drooping bell-shaped flowers [165] are borne on spikes from 1 to 2 feet in length. They appear at their best when grown in clumps and are decorative for garden use and useful for supplying midsummer bloom. Plant the bulbs outdoors in spring 6 inches deep and about a foot apart, it is safer to lift the bulbs in the fall and store them over winter in a frost-proof place. Ismene, Peruvian Daffodil. Ismene is a midsummer flowering plant with white flowers resembling those of the Amaryllis. Do not plant the bulbs until the latter part of May or when the weather becomes warm and settled. Lift the bulbs in October and winter them in a frost-proof place for planting out the following spring. MONTBRETIAS The flowers of Montbretia are borne on spikes resembling somewhat those of the gladiolus. Montbretia is a summer blooming bulb and is planted outdoors in early May. Plant in large clumps or masses for best effect, covering the bulbs or corms to a depth of 2 inches and placing them 3 or 4 inches apart. It is safer to lift the corms after frost and store in a frost-proof cellar, covering them with moist (not wet) soil.

Varieties. Fire King, scarlet, Golden West, golden yellow, Germania, orange scarlet. [166] TUBEROSE The tuberose is a fragrant summer flowering bulb and requires no special care. Plant the bulbs outdoors about May 15th or after all danger from frost is over, setting them about an inch deep. Lift the bulbs in the fall and winter them in a dry, frost-proof place.
