The Perennial Garden: Yucca

Yucca, Adam's Needle. The Yucca is a large, bold plant that is suitable for planting toward the back of wide borders, or as an accent plant, the handsome drooping flowers of ivory white are borne on stalks that grow to a height of from 4 to 6 feet, and bloom during July. Yucca will grow in any soil, often thriving in places where few other plants will grow; it is best to transplant in early spring. Propagation is difficult and as plants can be bought for 35 and 50 cents apiece it is better to purchase one's stock, rather than attempt to propagate.
