Chamaecyparis
America and Japan are the headquarters of this genus, which is included, by Bentham and Hooker, under Thuya. To the varieties of C. Lawsoniana described on pp. 303-4, Vol. I., the following should now be added: C. Lawsoniana erecta alba (erect, white). A variety of slender, twiggy growth, stiff and compact, but feathery at the points, of a rich glaucous-whitish-grey or silvery hue. 1882.
C. L. Rosenthalii (Rosenthal's). A garden variety, differing from the type in its pyramidal growth, and in the branchlets not drooping. 1886.
